Violin

Lorenzo Storioni Cremona, 1775

Lorenzo Storioni (1744-1816) was born after both Antonio Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesu were dead. He was the most important maker in Cremona at the end of the 18th century and was one of the first makers to have been more influenced by the work of del Gesu than Stradivari.

This violin, made around 1775, is in very good condition as reflected by the large amount of original varnish it still retains. It enjoys a player with a strong hand that looks for the depth and richness associated with a del Gesu model.

As the top tiers of violins have become impossible for musicians to acquire, interest has turned to the next generation of Cremonese makers. Storioni along with the later Bergonzi family have become of particular interest to players today.
