A native of Indiana, John Davis has played violin since early childhood. Violin restoration combines many of John’s passions and professional skills. He has studied architecture and engineering, while working in various professional capacities including electrical assembly, machining, fabrication, and material science. While pursuing studies at the Chicago School of Violin Making, he was noted for his outstanding work and was called upon to tutor his fellow classmates. Upon graduation, John worked for several violin shops in the Chicago area, while remaining active as a chamber musician. He subsequently joined the workshop at Rare Violins of New York, where his diverse experience makes him an innovative problem-solver well-suited to challenging restoration and conservation work.
