In Consortium Loans “Ames” Stradivari to Yesong Sophie Lee

Sophie Lee

Crafted in 1734 by Antonio Stradivari, the violin known as the “Ames” reflects the master’s later work — a period marked by refined design and a sound of remarkable warmth and complexity. Named after American violinist George Ames, the instrument carries a quiet but distinguished legacy, having passed through the hands of musicians who valued its voice as much as its history.

Through the Rare Violins In Consortium program, the “Ames” continues its life in performance. In February 2024, violinist Yesong Sophie Lee was entrusted with the instrument. Known for her poised artistry and vivid tone, Lee brings a fresh sensibility to the “Ames,” drawing out its expressive range.

With each performance, Lee ensures that the “Ames” Stradivari remains not just preserved, but heard — connecting a great tradition of violin making to audiences today.
