Tecchler was the most important maker of the Roman School. He was born in Augsburg around 1668 in what is now Germany, and moved to Rome before the end of the century. He is particularly known for his excellent cellos, almost all of which were originally made on a very large pattern. This cello, like almost all his output, has since been reduced in size for contemporary use. Made c1698, this cello has the power and projection of a major solo instrument, with an A string that is typical of the maker, offering multi-layered complexity in the tone that is captivating for players and audiences.
